Structural Pest Inspections in the State of Washington are inspections for Wood Destroying Organisms and are regulated by the Washington State Department of Agriculture. The Wood Destroying Organisms found in Western Washington State are:
Subterranean Termites Damp Wood termites Carpenter Ants Moisture Ants Wood Boring Beetles Wood Decay Fungus (rot)
The inspection is to identify damage, infestations or conditions conducive to damage. Conducive conditions include, but are not limited to:
Faulty grade clearance Earth/wood contact Cellulose debris Insufficient ventilation Excessive moisture.
Structural pest inspections [aka Wood Destroying Organism inspections] are typically non-invasive. The inspection is based on the visible evidence present at the time of the inspection as conditions can change. Structural Pest Inspections in Washington State can only be performed by inspectors licensed by the state Dept. of Agriculture.
